Scope and Contents Morse describes his departure from Fortrep Monroe. He went on a steam boat up to Norfolk, took prisoners, then went down to Hampton Road on the way to Fort Delware. He described the process of getting on the enemy's boat, capturing prisoners, rushing the weapons, and threatening to 'blow their brains out' if they resisted. No blood was shed. Men guarded the boat's captain, pilot, and engineer. Morse called someone a coward, but their name was cut out from the letter. They marched all night...

While traveling in a carriage with Lizzie McWilliams, the horses became moody and began bucking. The carriage struck the railing and fell into the water, sinking to the bottom. Morse climbed out the window and Lizzie grabbed on to him. Letter from Morse to Nath describing the dangers of war he has faced in various locations. He described in detail his trip when leaving Mobile, when he managed to find Pascagoula River. He got within 20 yards of a Yankee camp, but due to rain and hiding in a buggy, him and his companion were able to avoid capture. He includes lyrics to solder songs.

He was recalling Eugene Holmes, who was capture with Morse and prisoners in New Orleans. Holmes was captured again in the District while serving as Captain of a Battery.
