Letter from Morse to Mrs. Sarah, August 27, 1863
Item — Box: 2, Folder: 85
Scope and Contents
Morse updates Mrs. Sarah on his location, stating that he has returned to Saint Mary's. While traveling in a carriage with Lizzie McWilliams, the horses became moody and began bucking. The carriage struck the railing and fell into the water, sinking to the bottom. Morse climbed out the window and Lizzie grabbed on to him. The bottom of Lizzie's hoop got caught, but Morse was able to swim up to the surface, whether someone pulled them out.
Morse's location: Camperdown in Greenville, South Carolina.
