Note
Constable of South Hempstead is required to summons Enoch Sampson, a Black man, to appear before Richard Jackson on the 16th of January at "two of the clock in the afternoon" to answer to Jacob Seaman of a plea "for you dealing with his servant Edman" and subsequent damages of £10 or under. An addendum empowers Micah Williams to serve the summons "as the Constable ought to do." Dated 6th of January, 1796 and signed by Richard Jackson, Justice.
