Note
Constable of South Hempstead is required to summons Edward Contee, a Black man, to appear before Richard Jackson on the 9th of May at "two of the clock in the afternoon" to answer to Thomas Jackson for damages of £10 or under. Dated 29th of April, 1795 and signed by Richard Jackson, Justice. Writing on back details the service of the summons. It further details the fact that "the Tryal ajournd by Consent until the first day of June at two of the clock in the afternoon at the house of Israel Seaman at Jerusalem." Additionally, a note on the back states: "Edward Contee-a Negro."
