Note
Constable of Hempstead is commanded to summons "twelve good and lawfull men being freeholders of the Town of Hempstead" to appear before Richard Jackson, Esq. on Friday, the 30th of March, at "six of the clock in the afternoon." The jurors should not be kin to either Joshua Smith, Jr., plaintiff, or Uriah Totten, defendant. They also should not be interested in the suit between the parties. Dated 30th of March, 1798 and signed by Richard Jackson, Justice. The back of the writ contains a list of jurors (only 7, however): Stephen Baldwin, Thomas Forabee, Linnington Smith, Parker Baldwin, Jacob Baldwin, Micajah Combs, and Joseph Smith.
