Burton Fretz Opposition to the LSC Collection
Scope and Contents
These materials were generated during the early Reagan administration and collected by long-time legal aid advocate Burton Fretz, the former director of the Senior Citizens Law Center, The documents reflect efforts to eliminate federal funding for public interest law through the Legal Services Corporation and the Department of Health and Human Services. The collection includes, for example, strategy papers by the Heritage Foundation on how to undermine federal funding for legal services, and an advertisement by the Conservative Caucus in the Washington Post against the Legal Services Corporation, which was called the "Illegal Services Corporation."
